Endangered Sharks

Most creatures living in the ocean are inherently endangered–the ocean is extremely vulnerable to climate change. However, here are two critically endangered shark species:

1. Ganges shark

The Ganges shark is a fully freshwater shark, which is VERY INTERESTING!. Found in India, they are the only true freshwater shark there. This shark is often mistaken for bull sharks, a more aggressive species. A long gestation period and small litters makes this species easily threatened by overfishing. Their population is thought to be at around 250 individuals. How unfortunate......!

2. Pelagic thresher shark

This silly shark is known for its hunting technique of whipping prey with its long tail. According to the Florida Museum, "The pelagic thresher inhabits surface waters of the open ocean, from the surface to at least 492 feet deep. It also sometimes occurs in cool inshore waters." However, this is mostly speculation as there is little information of its whereabouts. Their population has never been assessed but it is classified as decreasing.
